ST ANDREWS WALTHAMSTOW

One Lord, One Faith, One God

CHILDRENS PAGE

The children of St Andrew's Church are highly-valued and integral members of our church community.

They attend week by week as members of our Junior Church, meeting every week of the month, save the second, beginning their morning in the church service and departing for their own session after the first hymn.  They return to church just prior to communion and are welcome to participate fully in our Lord's Supper.

Junior Church currently enjoy taking part in services by singing appropriate songs they are taught by one of our pianists, Robert.  They have also performed at a couple of social events, including our party for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, attended by the Mayor of Waltham Forest.  Their most recent events were the commissioning of our MMU with the Bishop of Barking at St Edmund's Church, Chingford and our service of Carols by Candlelight just before Christmas.  The choir is enthusiastic and happy, enjoying serving their God in this way.

For the last two years, Junior Church have whole-heartedly taken up the challenge issued to them by our Minister to raise money for the Area Dean's efforts to buy motorbikes for ministers serving remote communities in Kenya.  They met together (independently) to organise themselves, enlisted the help of their parents and encouraged the congregation, week by week, to purchase their wares!  Each year they have raised much more than Stella challenged them to raise and we are all extremely proud of them.

Each December Junior Church perform a version of the Nativity for the rest of the congregation.  This is usually a lot of fun, enjoyed and appreciated by the adults.

Our current Junior Church members range in age from two to thirteen years.
